Spring break is right around the corner and it’s time to start planning! Before you break the bank and purchase expensive flights, or bite the bullet and sign up for a super long drive, take a look these local hidden gems.
The picturesque settings, and variety of attractions are just the beginning of what these destinations have to offer. What’s the best part? With the unpredictable weather of the Northeast, you and your family will have tons to enjoy without relying on the hopes of a sunny day!
Crystal Spring Resort
The first time I drove up to Grand Cascades, one of Crystal Spring’s properties, I was left in awe of God’s creation. The resort is perfectly situated amongst Sussex county’s acclaimed hills and valleys. It offers the perfect secluded escape that we all find ourselves needing from our busy, everyday lives.
Their breakfast buffet, climate controlled biosphere pool, and many other on-property activities are simply a few of the many reasons Grand Cascades is one of my go-to-places. A golfer’s dream, this resort offers several courses including Ballyowen, NJ’s number 1 ranked golf course.
LOCATION: 1 Wild Turkey Way, Hamburg, NJ 07419
Kalahari Indoor Waterpark
Unlike the meaning of its name, Kalahari is anything but a waterless place. In fact, the resort’s 220,000 square ft. indoor waterpark features some incredible experiences for kids and adults of all ages. While the beautiful African decor of the rooms were my husband’s favorite part, my 82 year grandmother enjoyed the water activities along with the mini golf course.
When we were too tired to splash in the water, we had tons of other on-property options to explore like their 7-D theatre and arcade. It wasn’t until the day we left that we had realized a Nor’easter had brought freezing temperatures, wind, and rain all while we were perfectly comfortable within our indoor oasis getaway.
LOCATION: 250 Kalahari Blvd, Pocono Manor, PA 18349
The Village of Smithville – Colonial Inn
If a Hallmark movie producer was looking for a local setting for an upcoming film, the quaint village of Smithville would surely be near the top of the list. This beautiful village sits adjacent to Lake Meone, offering stunning views of local waterfowl, gliding majestically in the water.
Covering a total area of 5,055 square miles and within walking distance of 60 unique shops, eateries and other attractions, Smithville is a place you don’t want to miss!. While visiting, consider staying at the Colonial Inn, an onsite bed & breakfast, that is the perfect reflection of Smithville’s rich colonial history.
LOCATION: 615 E Moss Mill Rd, Smithville, NJ 08205
