It’s Okay to Fall Apart

Talk about gut-wrenching! Have you heard Ryan Stevenson’s song, “When We Fall Apart”? Every time it comes on, I cry! And since I’m listening to Star ALL DAY LONG, that’s a lot of crying. But… it’s a good cry.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how society has taught us that we need to have it all together, all the time. That’s a lie. We really don’t. God doesn’t want us to pretend we do. Just like the song says, “It’s okay to cry. It’s okay to fall apart. You don’t have to try to be strong when you are not. And it may take some time to make sense of all your thoughts but don’t ever fight your tears cause there is freedom in every drop. Sometimes the only way to heal a broken heart is when we fall apart.”

WOW. That’s because when we allow God to work in our broken pieces – when we let Him pick up the mess – when we let Him comfort us, we get real healing! The amazing thing about God is that He doesn’t use duct tape. He rebuilds us in ways that are better than we could have ever imagined. He is so good to us! He is faithful to stand by you through your hardships, just like it says in Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

So don’t hold back those tears. Don’t pretend to have it all together. You have permission to fall apart today. Fall into God’s strong, yet everlastingly capable, healing hands.

Blessings,
Kristen James
